What is a Massage?

Massage is the manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to enhance function, aid in the healing process, and promote relaxation and well-being. Massage involves acting on and manipulating the body with pressure, structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving tension, motion, or vibration, done manually or with mechanical aids. There are over eighty different recognized massage modalities. The most cited reasons for introducing massage as therapy have been client demand and perceived clinical effectiveness.

Swedish Massage

One of the most commonly taught and well-known massage techniques. Used to relax the mind and spirit, improve circulation and lymph flow. Which helps the body heal itself physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Deep Tissue Massage

Technique that utilizes deep tissue/deep muscle, but not to be thought of as painful. The client should feel a tolerable pain so as not to tense up. For tensing will prevent the therapist from reaching deeper muscle/tissue. Helps with pain, range of motion, and tension.

Hot Stone Massage

Sports massage is a type of Swedish massage that stimulates circulation of blood and lymph fluids. Some sports massage movements use trigger point therapy to break down adhesions (knots in the muscles) and increase range of motion.

Prenatal Massage

To reduce pregnancy discomfort and concerns, and to embrace the physiological and emotional well being of both mother and child. Therapist performing massage have advanced training in this technique so it is safe to receive treatment. Must be at least five weeks.
